Nean

Fabien Hupin, aka NEAN, is a young self-taught artist from Brussels. He started out working on paper before turning to spray paint. A seasoned portraitist, he puts this know-how to work through graffiti. Influenced by traditional painting and digital art, his work gravitates between an experimental and photorealistic style. The subjects represented by the artist are far removed from the codes of graffiti, and the only element that links him to this practice is the use of spray cans. He experiments with large-scale media, alternating between digital painting, painting on walls and painting on canvas. His experiments with different media demonstrate his interest in art forms other than graffiti. The artist claims to be influenced, both in technique and subject matter, by more traditional painting such as that of Gustave Klimt, Egon Schiele and Toulouse-Lautrec, as well as poster artists such as Alphonse Mucha, rather than street art. In his work, NEAN blends tradition with modern technique.
