Hell’O Monsters

Behind the HELL’O Monsters are two Brussels artists: Jérôme Meynen and Antoine Detaille. The duo have been criss-crossing Europe with their monsters for over a decade. Trained in painting, the artists try to distance themselves from the so-called “traditional” codes of street art. Nor, for that matter, do they consider themselves to be street artists. The collective was initially created as a trio in 2008, but in 2014 they became a duo. Throughout their careers, both artists have been influenced by various elements of art history: vanitas, ethnic motifs, segments design and geometric abstraction. In their frescoes, we usually find hybrid beings, half-plant, half-bird; man, at first very present in their works, has mutated, faded away and is present today only through fragments of bodies. Colour, very present, intense and sometimes pastel, is an important element of the duo’s work.
