This fresco was created in May 2019 by artist Kim Demane to mark the 450^th anniversary of the death of painter Pieter Bruegel. Ten fresco offerings have been created, grouped together along a route known as the “Parcours Bruegel” in Marolles. Each artist was given the task of reinterpreting a work by the Flemish master.

This fresco was inspired by the work “The Tower of Babel, Pieter Brueghel the Elder, 1563, oil on wood, 114 x 155 cm, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria”.

Kim Demane on his work: “For me, Babylon is a symbol of oppression. An evil vision of men who seek the power to rule over others in one high Tower. This is the foundation of our society today. So even though Bruegel painted this tower many centuries ago, it is still relevant today.”
