This fresco was created in May 2019 by the Les Crayons collective to mark the 450^th anniversary of the death of painter Pieter Bruegel. Ten fresco offerings have been created, grouped together along a route known as the “Parcours Bruegel” in Marolles. Each artist was given the task of reinterpreting a work by the Flemish master.

These frescoes were inspired by “The Finder, Pieter Brueghel the Elder, 1568, oil on wood, 59.3 x 68.3 cm, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria” and “Superbia (Pride), Pieter Brueghel the Elder, 1557, engraving, 22.9 x 30 cm, Collection Frits Lugt, Institut Néerlandais, Paris”.

Les Crayons on their work: The idea is to have a foreground composed of a tangle of characters from the paintings “The Triumph of Death” and “Juno in the Underworld”, as well as certain engravings including “Envy”, “Last judgment” and “Pride”.
A kind of condensing of the chimeras, Bruegel’s “pariahs”. The subjects are rather “lugubrious” but are treated with a certain bonhomie. This cataplasm is heading towards a tree on the left wall. This tree, in which a “character” is hung, is taken from the painting “The finder”, whose exact meaning is the subject of debate, which I like.”
