Lucile Van Laecken is one of the nine winners of the call for projects entitled “9 visions”. This call for projects, launched in 2018, brought together nine artists and focused on a specific topic. The 30-metre hoarding in the rue du Marché aux poulets, partly surrounding the future administrative centre of the City of Brussels, are the canvas on which the artists were able to express themselves on the theme of “BXL moves for you, with you and thanks to you”. The aim is to show that Brussels is a creative city, evolving and on the move: a city that is modernising.

The themes in Lucile’s mural are technology, leisure, sociability and local consumption. This snapshot captures a discussion around a table, people on the move, a couple returning from the market, a person on an electric scooter, a drone and its pilot, window boxes, solar panels and Wi-Fi antennas, etc. This is her vision of Brussels – a creative city on the move. The rue du marché aux poulets is a lively street, brimming with activity. The artist has chosen to depict the passers-by as chickens, in reference to the street of the same name. “Birds of a feather flock together!” An invitation to follow the dynamic trend encapsulating the city. Lucile’s aim is to catch the eye of passers-by and invite them to take a moment to observe what’s going on. Moreover, she hopes to raise a smile, brighten up everyday life and bring the community together via the same passion – art.
