Some ten quirky, humorous illustrations appeared around the Porte du Rivage, in the Quartier des Quais, between 8 and 12 May 2017. They are the work of the French artist OAKOAK, who was invited to do a residency by the Deputy Mayor of Culture of the City of Brussels as part of its Street Art trail. The artist, who is known for hijacking urban developments, took over the district for a week. Inspired by popular images and icons, OAKOAK put a poetic, humorous twist on imperfections in the public space. For the artist, “the city is the best playground for painting”. His technique is a combination of drawing, collage and installations.
