Between the 8th and the 12th May 2017, a dozen humorous and quirky illustrations popped up around the Porte du Rivage, in the Quartier des Quais. These illustrations were the work of French artist OAKOAK, who was invited to take up residency by the Aldermanship of Culture of the City of Brussels as part of the PARCOURS Street Art programme. Known for his hijacking of urban amenities, the artist was given free rein of the neighbourhood for a week. Inspired by popular images and icons, OAKOAK plays on the imperfections of public space with humour and poetry. For the artist, “the city is the best playground for painting”. His technique combines drawing, collage and installations.
