This fresco was created in May 2019 by artist Nelson Dos Reis to mark the 450th anniversary of the death of painter Pieter Bruegel. Ten fresco offerings have been created, grouped together along a route known as the “Parcours Bruegel” in Marolles. Each artist was given the task of reinterpreting a work by the Flemish master.
This fresco was inspired by “Dæsidia (Idleness), Pieter Brueghel the Elder, 1557, engraving, 21.4 x 29.6 cm, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA”.
Nelson Dos Reis on his work: “I have often painted and drawn fantastic characters that are a little flawed, kind of anti-heroes. I wanted to pay tribute to the artist in my own way by focusing on one of these multiple creatures and isolating it from its context in the scene, to make it the main character of my fresco.”
